We're on a limited budget. How can we afford The Undertakers DJ?
This totally comes down to ticket prices. Students are used to paying up to $8 for a movie ticket, not including candy, popcorn and drinks. A simple fast-food value meal is around $4 - $5. Our recommendation is to set your dance tickets between $5 - $8 per student to help defray the cost of the DJ, decorations, refreshments, etc. If ONLY 100 students attend the dance at $6 each, this provides you with $600 in operating expenditures. With 400 students you'll make $2400, and so on. As professionals, this is how we set our prices for dances.
Our last DJ was boring. How will you make our dance fun?
Many DJ services will tell you that their music and light show will make your event fun. There is much more to a successful dance that just great music and lighting. The Undertakers make every dance fun for both the students and advisors, by creating a 'unique party' atmosphere that most other DJ services don't offer with their shows. Gaurenteed - you will not be bored at an Undertakers dance!
A big concern of ours is music and lyrics. How can you be sure we won't play explicit music at our dance, and will you take our requests?
One of our TOP concerns is music! We invest in a LEGAL music library that not only sends us the music the same time radio stations get it, but also provides us with radio edits as well. These selections do not contain explicit lyrics. When it comes to requests, we do our best to make sure ALL requests get played. After all, this is your dance. We want to play the music YOU want to hear. That's why we encourage requests, and bring request books to all of our dances.
We once had a DJ that didn't show up and all the students were left in the gym until their parents showed up. How can we be sure this won't happen?
The group putting on the dance probably didn't get a signed contract with that DJ. This is the industry standard and provides insurance that you will have a professional mobile DJ for your school dance. Low price DJ's that don't do this work as a profession (hobby DJ's or beginners), usualy NEVER have you sign a contract. We worn schools to ALWAYS have a contract with your DJ no matter if your dance in a fund-raiser or something as important as prom. The Undertakers have NEVER missed an event since we started, back in 1987.
Our group is asked to call all DJ's to get prices. After calling we find a big difference in costs. Why?
Over 90% of all mobile DJ's in the state do this part-time or as a hobby, so they run their business as cheap as possible. What does this mean when booking your entertainment? Most of the time, a 'hobbyist' DJ is very inexperienced, uses unedited/downloaded (illegal) music, is hard to reach on the phone, and gives very little attention to your event. A full-time mobile DJ, on the other hand, is always there when you call to ask questions, dedicates more time to your event, and does this as their FULL-TIME JOB. This is why a professional DJ gets paid more for an event.
Will you be the DJ that will perform at our school event, and will you gaurantee it in writing?
Insure that the person that will be entertaining at your school is an employee of the company that you hired and is not subcontracted. Read your contract/agreement carefully and remove any clauses giving the DJ the right to substitute anyone they choose. It is very important to confirm your booking with your DJ in writing with a signed contract/agreement. Terms should be clearly defined to avoid any problems.
At our last dance, there appeared to be extra 'DJ's' just standing around. Some of them were trying to dance with our students. What is your policy on this?
Depending on the size of your event, each show should only require one or two DJ's. Our policy does not allow our DJ's to dance with any students at any school event. Any company that is hired and allows their employees to dance or socialize with your students, should be questioned.
Does your DJ company offer more than just music for our dance?
YES! All dances involve more than just playing music. It is important to hire a DJ that can handle all of the announcements at your event, as well as being good with his or her microphone skills. Some of our packages offer interactive games, trivia and prizes. The Undertakers Disc Jockeys can cater any event to your school's specific needs.
At previous dances, we have had students mosh, stage-dive, bump & grind and slam dancing. What do you do to stop this activity?
Naturally, we want all of our guests to have a safe dance atmosphere. We try to stay away from many songs we know will generate a responce from some students. If dancing becomes dangerous, we warn the students on the microphone and will cease that music selection if it continues. In addition to choosing the music for the dance, your DJ will likely control the lighting as well. We advise placing chaperones or faculty near the dance floor to help keep an eye out for the safety of the students.
Sounds great! How can I get a contract and secure your services?
This is the easy part! Just give us a call at 888-226-6535, and either myself (Jeremy), or a member of our staff will figure out which one of our shows best fits your needs. We will then send you out a contract. We require a down payment (usually 20% of the total cost) and the contract signed by a member of your school staff in order to secure our services. Of course, this will all be explained to you in detail.
